Stress Reduction and Resiliency

Half Day Employee Program at SUNY New Paltz, January 2015
(This event is not open to the public, but we would be happy to bring a similar one to your company.)
  • Building Personal Resiliency
Resiliency is the capacity bounce back during, and after, major change. This presentation includes a conceptual introduction and a set of practical approaches to increase individual resiliency. Learn techniques like re-framing and re-appraisal, as well as basic mindfulness strategies to help remain in the moment and avoid catastrophization. We review the brain science behind emotional reactions to significant challenges, as well as how to mitigate those reactions.

  • Comfort Foods: Eating for Stress Relief
Food and Stress go together like peanut butter and jelly. Food choices can enhance or reduce our ability to manage stress.  Many of us turn to coffee or donuts to get us through a stressful situation at work, and ice cream or alcohol when we finally collapse at home.  This sort of emergency management can actually create a downward spiral of reduced coping abilities. Did you know that good nutrition can be a powerful stress management tool? While many “comfort food” choices may not be healthy, eating well can improve your focus, decision-making and resiliency.  You might be surprised at some of the things our nutrition coach recommends! (Hint: some chocolate in the afternoon might not be a bad thing.)
